CE leads tributes as Elsie Tu laid to rest
A cremation ceremony for Elsie Tu has been held in in Wan Chai after a memorial service in Hung Hom. The former lawmaker, social activist and anti-corruption campaigner died of pneumonia, aged 102, earlier this month. Her casket was carried by eight pallbearers, including the Chief Executive CY Leung and his two predecessors Tung Che-hwa and Donald Tsang. Her ashes will be buried with the remains of her husband, Andrew Tu, who died in 2001. Speaking at the funeral, Leung praised Tu's life-long devotion to democracy. He said Tu had spent her whole life serving the Hong Kong people, especially the poor and under-privileged.
